The main scale of the Jazzy/Afro-Beat Cuban music is called the Phrygian Mode or Scale. It is formed on distinct set of octave spaces. While in western music, the the common Major scale is played in C, while the Phrygian scale is played in D. Another scale that is widely used in Cuban music is the Mixolydian scale. This scale is usually associated with the physical body, such as why in most Afro-Beat Cuban music, a lot of the time there will be people dancing to the music. The Mixolydian scale sounds a lot like the Major scale, except near the upper part of the scale, the 7th note is the same as the Minor scale,G=A=B-C=D=E-F=G. (Stolaf)
